The Ministry of External Affairs is aware of the detention of Major (retd) Vikrant Jaitly in UAE prison and the Indian Embassy is extending assistance all possible assistance to him, his family, the ministry said on Friday.
Reacting to developments on the case, the MEA said, "We are seized of the matter related to Indian national Major Vikrant Jaitley. Consular officials from our Embassy in Abu Dhabi have obtained regular consular access and met him on four occasions. Our Embassy continues to extend all possible consular assistance to him. They are in touch with the family, including the wife of the detainee."
The ministry said as per the directions from the Delhi High Court, the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi is extending all possible assistance to Jaitly and his family. The case came to light after Jaitly's sister and actor Celina Jaitly moved the Delhi High Court seeking diplomatic assistance for her brother, who has been in detention for over 14 months.

Major Jaitly had served in the Indian Army, and after leaving the armed forces, Major Jaitly had been residing in the UAE since 2016. He was reportedly employed with the MATITI Group, engaged in trading, consultancy, and risk management services.
Hearing Celina's petition, the Delhi High Court directed MEA authorities to take steps to provide effective legal representation to Major Jaitly. The court also directed the ministry to appoint a nodal officer to apprise the petitioner and other family members regarding the status of Major Jaitly and the legal proceedings.
