The 32-year-old man found dead in a fire in Timarpur's Gandhi Vihar was killed in a planned act of vengeance, Delhi Police found out. Ram Kesh Meena, a 32-year-old who had been preparing for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) entrance exam, was allegedly killed by a trio including his live-in partner for refusing to delete private videos that he stored against her wish.
Ram Kesh's live-in partner, Amrita Chauhan, shared her concerns with her former partner Sumit Kashyap about the man having stored her obscene vidoes in a hard disk against her wish. Angered by the development, Kashyap sought the help of Sandeep Kumar, a common friend of Chauhan and himself. All of them are residents of Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh. The trio plotted and killed Meena in Gandhi Vihar and managed to make it look like a fire accident.

On October 5, the two men thrashed the victim before choking him to death, news reports said. Sumit Kashyap, who reportedly worked for an LPG agency, then brought the gas cylinder from the flat's kitchen and placed it on the victim's head.
Meanwhile, Sandeep helped Amrita retrieve his hard disk and two laptops from the apartment, which was on the fourth floor of the building. Once they secured what they came looking for, Sumit turned on the gas knob to let the fuel leak. They stepped out and locked the main door of the apartment but not before igniting a fire to make the incident look like a fire accident. It was an hour after the trio left the building that an explosion happened. Oil, ghee and wine were poured on Meena's lifeless body before setting it on fire, news reports added.
CCTV foils getaway strategy
If not for the CCTV that captured them leaving the premises, it would have been difficult for the investigation team to pin Sandeep and Sumit to the case. For 21-year-old Amrita, it was only a matter of time as her mobile phone location confirmed that she was in the area during the time of Meena's death. She was reportedly pursuing a B.Sc. in Forensic Science, which is said to have helped them to ensure there was not much for the cops to work with. However, they failed to escape the eyes of the CCTV cameras, although masks hid their identity. She loved crime series and documentaries around real-life crimes, which is also said to have influenced the sinister plot.
Hindi media confirmed that the police have recovered the hard drive which led to the murder, along with a trolley bag and two mobile phones from the accused. The case is currently under investigation.
