Assam Police on Monday arrested top civil service officer Nupur Bora for allegedly possessing wealth disproportionate to her income.
According to reports, cash amounting to Rs 92 lakh and jewellery worth nearly Rs 2 crore were recovered from Bora’s Guwahati residence during a raid by the vigilance cell.
Raids were also conducted in three other locations, including her rented house in Barpeta.
A resident of Golaghat, Bora joined the Assam Civil Service in 2019, and was currently posted as a circle officer in Kamrup district's Goroimari.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the officer had been under surveillance for the past six months due to complaints of alleged involvement in controversial land-related issues.
“This officer had transferred Hindus’ land to suspicious individuals in exchange for money when she was posted in the Barpeta revenue circle. We have taken strict action against her,” Sarma said.
The chief minister also noted corruption was rampant in the revenue offices of minority-dominated areas.
Barpeta was among the districts where the BJP-led government has launched a drive against the suspected Bangladeshi settlers.
SP Rose Kalita said there were several allegations against Bora and an investigation is underway. “We could seize more cash and other assets by the time the probe ends," the SP said.
The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), led by Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi, had filed a complaint against Bora, alleging that she maintained a “rate card” for land services.
The complainant claimed that Bora charged bribes from Rs 1,500 for land maps to Rs 2 lakh for altering land records, reported News18.
