The Indian Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for Delhi NCR, including Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad, today. Many parts of the city are suffering from intense waterlogging and traffic snarls.

The District Disaster Management Authority issued an advisory urging residents to work from home and instructed schools to conduct online classes. The advisory said, “In view of the forecast, all corporate offices and private institutions in the district are advised to guide their employees to work from home; and all schools in the district are advised to conduct online classes on 02-09-2025.”

In Gurugram, the heavy rains caused intense waterlogging and massive traffic jams on Tuesday night.

A 7-kilometre traffic snarl was reported in one region. Key routes, like the Delhi-Jaipur highway, were blocked for hours.

Many residents took to X to post their concerns. One user said that the city was ‘sinking into chaos’ with long traffic jams, flooding, garbage, potholes, poor public transport, and haphazard urbanisation.

One aerial shot from a building in the city showed last night's traffic that seemed to stretch out for kilometres. One netizen said sarcastically,” I have heard of River View, Sea View, Garden View, Hill View, and Pool View. But never heard of Traffic Jam View Apartments. “

The traffic jam had resulted in nearly 200 distress calls from commuters to the Gurugram Traffic police helpline.

Gurugram Police Commissioner Vikas Aroroa and Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar conducted late-night inspections of the NH-48 to assess the traffic. The district administration had used water pumps and machinery to clear out the water, and now conditions are improving. However, some roads are still waterlogged, like the Sheetla Mata Mandir road in the Sadar Red Light area. One side of the road remained submerged, forcing the traffic to slow down. Autorickshaws frequently get stuck in the waters, reported India TV.

A leakage was spotted on the ceiling of the Signature Tower Chowk Underpass in Gurugram following the heavy rain.

Meanwhile, Noida and Ghaziabad are also witnessing heavy rains.
