All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary K.C. Venugopal's wife Dr Asha is facing a cyber-attack from Congress trolls after she posted on Facebook about the Rahul Mamkoottathil controversy. Malayalam media reports stated that Dr Asha was forced to delete her post from Facebook following a horrific cyber-attack and intense pressure.
Coming down heavily on the Palakkad MLA, Rahul Mamkoottathil, Dr Asha had written on Facebook that women were terrified of the Congress leader. She reportedly added that she was saddened by the developments, and the intensity of the situation was such that she could not remain silent.
However, Congress trolls, who consider Rahul a hero, were merciless towards the wife of the senior party leader. Malayalam media reports said that they filled the comment section of the post with abusive content and personal attacks. Venugopal himself was not spared, with many fake accounts alleging that the Alappuzha MP was involved in the solar scam that involved controversial figure Saritha S. Nair.
Rahul Mamkoottathil is accused of impregnating a woman and then forcing her to abort the pregnancy. Recorded phone conversations revealed the former Youth Congress chief threatening to kill the woman if she did not do as he asked. The AICC received as many as nine emails complaining against the MLA, while a transgender person also came forward alleging that Rahul told her he wanted to rape her outside Kerala. Writer Honey Bhaskaran and actress Rini Ann also went public with allegations against Rahul, who was forced to step down as the state unit chief of the Youth Congress. While the Congress party has suspended him, he has not been asked to resign from the State Assembly.
