Professor M.K. Sanoo, renowned Malayalam literary critic and former Kerala legislator, died at the age of 97 on Saturday evening.
The prolific writer, who recently underwent a surgery, passed away at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in Kochi around 5.35 pm on Saturday.
How did M.K. Sanoo die?
Fondly called Sanoo Mash, the professor had suffered a hip fracture after collapsing at his home on July 25. He underwent surgery at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in Kochi. He had been struggling with breathing troubles and desaturation following the operation. Later, he was moved the ICU, where he was being treated for pulmonary oedema and pneumonia.

Born on October 27, 1927, at Alappuzha's Thumpoli, Sanoo graduated from University College, Thiruvananthapuram, with first rank in MA Malayalam. He has taught at schools and several government colleges. He retired from service in 1983.

In 1987, he contested assembly elections from Ernakulam as an independent backed by LDF and became an MLA.
Sanoo, who has more than 80 books to his credit, published his first book, Anchu Sastra Nayakanmar, in 1958. His first literary criticism was Kaatum Velichavum published in 1960.
His other works include Ekanthaveethiyile Avadhoothan, a biography on Vaikom Muhammad Basheer and Nakshatrangalude Snehabhajanam, a biography on Changampuzha Krishna Pillai.
Sanoo won several awards, including the Sahitya Akademi Award (Centre and State), Vayalar Award, Ezhuthachan Puraskaram and Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award.
