A Shillong court has sent Sonam Raghuvanshi and her four aides to eight-day police custody, officials confirmed.
Sonam is accused of killing her husband Raja Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. She was arrested from Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh and her aides were caught from Indore in Madhya Pradesh for their role in the murder of her husband.
"Police had sought a 10-day remand of all the accused. The court granted 8 days of police custody," East Khasi Hills district SP Vivek Syiem told PTI.
As per the officials, the special investigation team (SIT) sought the police custody of the accused to reconstruct the crime scene in Sohra.
Meanwhile, Govind Raghuvanshi, brother of the prime accused Sonam, visited and apologised to the mother of Raja Raghuvanshi. He held a press conference at the residence wherein he said that based on the evidence found so far, he is completely sure that his sister committed the murder. “All the accused in this case are related to Raj Kushwaha. I apologise to Raja's family,” he said.
29-year-old Raja Raghuvanshi, an Indore-based businessman, was found dead in a gorge while on a honeymoon trip to Meghalaya with his wife, Sonam. The couple were on a honeymoon in the northeast state and had gone 'missing' on May 23 after checking out of a homestay where they were staying.
Raja's body was found on June 2, and police initially speculated that the woman might have been abducted. However, the details of the case unraveled after Sonam was found in Uttar Pradesh, revealing that her husband had been murdered as per her plan, as she was in a relationship with a man who worked at her family’s business.
