Sonam Raghuvanshi, the Indore woman arrested in connection with the murder of her husband Raja during honeymoon in Meghalaya, will be taken to the crime site today. Police arrested her from Uttar Pradesh and called Sonam's move to portray herself as a victim a "poor plan".

The Meghalaya police secured a transit remand on Monday and Sonam is being taken to the state to reveal the motive behind murdering her husband Raja within 20 days after marriage. UP police arrested Sonam from a dhaba in Ghazipur on Monday, bringing to an end a widespread hunt for the couple who were initially reported missing. Police had recovered Raja's body from a gorge in Meghalaya a few days ago.

According to UP police, Sonam claimed she was "drugged" and brought to the stat, a claim that cops refuse to buy. UP Police's Additional Director General (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash told NDTV, "Sonam presented herself as a victim before the police, claiming she was drugged and brought to Ghazipur. She informed her family about this, knowing the police would eventually reach her. Around 3am on Monday, she told her family that she was at a dhaba on the Ghazipur-Varanasi road. Her family immediately contacted the Madhya Pradesh police, who informed the local police, leading to Sonam's arrest. She was sent for a medical checkup and then to a One-Stop Centre. The Meghalaya police are now interrogating her and completing legal formalities."

The young couple who went on a honeymoon to Meghalaya were reported missing on May 23. According to cops, Sonam plotted the murder along with her alleged boyfriend  Raj Kushwaha. Sonam allegedly hired goons to execute the murder.

"Sonam is a poor planner. She lacked knowledge of police procedures and thought she could escape by posing as a victim, but she failed. The Meghalaya police have done excellent work and are currently handling the case. If they seek assistance, we will provide it," the senior UP cop told NDTV.

Meghalaya DGP I. Nongrang said Raja was allegedly killed by men hired by his wife Sonam. Besides Sonam, police have so far arrested five persons in connection with the case. Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife had gone missing while vacationing at Sohra in Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills district on May 23.
