Neighbours Sonam Raghuvanshi, an Indore-based woman accused in the murder of her husband in Meghalaya, have described their shock and disbelief after they come to know the whole episode of crime.

Sonam (24) surrendered before Uttar Pradesh Police in Ghazipur on Monday, days after her husband Raja Raghuvanshi’s body was recovered from a deep gorge in East Khasi Hills district on June 2. The couple were on a honeymoon trip in the northeast state when they reportedly went missing on May 23.

"Her (Sonam's) behaviour was very good. The wedding was celebrated with great pomp and Sonam looked very happy. There was no fear or suspicion that she could do something like this. We do not think she has done anything like that," Sapna Solanki, a neighbour of Sonam, told ANI.

Several residents in the locality claimed that Sonam had a very good nature.

"Didi (Sonam) had a very good nature. She remained friendly with everyone. Everyone calls her 'Bitti'. I don't think she would have done such a thing because given her nature, she could only do good things like that,” said another neighbour.

According to police, Raghuvanshi was allegedly killed by men hired by his wife. Apart from Sonam, three assailants were arrested—Akash Rajput from Lalitpur and two others from Indore.

"The operation is still continuing in Madhya Pradesh to catch some more persons involved in the crime," said Meghalaya DGP I Nonrong.
