Days after Indore man Raja Raghuvanshi was murdered in cold blood during his honeymoon in Meghalaya, his wife Sonam Raghuvanshi surrendered before the Uttar Pradesh police.

Raj Kushwaha who knew Sonam Raghuvanshi before her marriage helped plot the murder. Reports said he was her boyfriend and the duo wanted to get rid of Sonam's husband to reunite. Police have also recovered a machete used to murder Raja Raghuvanshi.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said the police was able to achieve a major breakthrough within seven days of the murder. The newlyweds were visiting Cherrapunjee for their honeymoon.

They later travelled to Nongriat and were last found checking out of Balaji Homestay. The couple had gone missing on May 23 and a scooter rented by the couple was found abandoned at Sohrarim on May 24. The husband was found dead in a gorge in Riat Arliang on June 2.

Sonam, who was missing for around two weeks, called her brother Govind on Sunday night, informing him that she was in UP's Ghazipur. She was found unconscious at a roadside eatery following which Nandganj police took her to Ghazipur Medical College for medical checkup. She was later arrested.

Police said three men hired by Sonam to kill Raja were arrested in overnight raids. One of them was arrested in Uttar Pradesh, while the other two were nabbed from Indore.

They were identified as Vicky Thakur, Anand and Akash. More people involved in the murder are being traced in Madhya Pradesh.

One of the tourist guides in Meghalaya told police that he saw Raja walking with his wife Sonam and three other men on May 23. The trio was with the couple when they climbed more than 3,000 steps from Nongriat to Mawlakhiat.
