The Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) is gaining momentum in the country, and it is reflected in its new 12-storey building inaugurated in Delhi by Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat.
“Our work should also be as grand as this building. Our work should reflect that grandness,” Bhagwat said in the presence of senior paracharaks and senior BJP leaders including Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and party chief J.P. Nadda.
“Bharat will soon become Vishwaguru, and we are confident that we will witness this in our lifetime. However, for this to happen, every Swayamsevak must work selflessly and remain committed to the cause,” Bhagwat said.
RSS chief reflected on the modest conditions under which Sangh started its journey 100 years ago. “It has changed, but its direction should not change. Prosperity is a necessity—we must have what we need, but it should be attained with limits. The newly constructed building by Keshav Smarak Samiti is undoubtedly grand. However, with this grandeur comes responsibility, and we must work accordingly to uphold its stature.”
The reconstruction work of RSS headquarters—called Keshav Kunj, named after its founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar—began in 2016. This RSS office came into existence in 1939. At that time, a small building was constructed at this very location in Jhandewalan. Later, in 1962, it was expanded to include additional rooms. In 1969, the Keshav Smarak Samiti was formed. During the 1980s, the building was further expanded as per the requirements, said Alok Kumar, the president of Keshav Smarak Samiti.
The construction of the new building started in 2016, and cost over Rs 150 crore, which the RSS says has been contributed by over 75000 workers and supporters.
The Keshav Kunj primarily consists of three towers — Sadhana, Prerana, and Archana. It houses the Ashok Singhal Auditorium, which is modern and well-equipped to meet contemporary needs. It can seat 460 people, while the other auditorium can seat over 600 people. There is also the Keshav Library, an OPD clinic, Suruchi Prakashan, the publication house.
To support its electricity needs, Keshav Kunj is equipped with a 150-kilowatt solar plant. For proper waste management and recycling, a 140 KLD capacity STP (Sewage Treatment Plant) has been installed. Designed by Gujarat based architect Anoop Dave, Keshav Kunj spans over 5 lakh square feet on 3.75 acres of land.
The new office also has a Hanuman temple.
Also in attendance during the inauguration were senior RSS leaders Krishna Gopal, Arun Kumar, Suresh Soni, Ramlal, Narendra Thakur, and Indresh Kumar.
The construction of the new HQ marks a significant milestone in the 100-year history of the organisation, which is not only the ideological fountainhead of the ruling BJP but also provides the framework to the Hindutva thought in the country.
