The 2026 Tamil romantic action film DC, starring Lokesh Kanagaraj and Wamiqa Gabbi, is nearing the end of its theatrical run. The Arun Matheshwaran directorial, which has already managed a strong run at the box office, considering it's the debut of a first-time actor, is gearing up for its streaming premiere on Sun NXT on Sept. 4, 2026.
Produced by Sun Pictures, the film has crossed ₹101.82 crore in worldwide gross collections against a reported production budget of ₹25 crore.
Released in theatres on August 7, DC had a strong opening, collecting ₹31.86 crore worldwide during its first weekend. The film crossed the ₹50 crore mark by Day 5 and reached ₹84 crore by Day 10. It eventually crossed ₹100 crore worldwide on August 27.
According to the reported figures, DC has earned ₹78.51 crore gross in India, including ₹68.20 crore in net collections, while overseas markets have contributed ₹23.30 crore. The Tamil version has been the biggest contributor, earning around ₹47.73 crore in India net collections. The Telugu dubbed version has also performed well with ₹18.01 crore, while the Hindi version has contributed ₹2.46 crore.
One of the film’s biggest achievements has come from Kerala. Distributed by Sree Gokulam Movies, DC has grossed more than ₹16.65 crore in the state within its first 10 days. This has made it the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2026 in Kerala, surpassing earlier chart-toppers such as Jana Nayagan. The film is now steadily moving towards the ₹20 crore mark in the state.
Despite slowing down slightly toward the end of August, DC has maintained steady theatrical footfalls into its third week. Its overall performance has placed it among the six highest-grossing Tamil films of 2026.
Sun NXT is the natural home for the film because it was produced by Sun Pictures, which is part of the same media group.
In the Indian film industry, production houses that operate their own streaming platforms often retain digital rights for their films and release them through their own services after the theatrical window. Sun Pictures has followed this model with several of its productions.
There are also reports that Amazon Prime Video could stream DC simultaneously in selected regions or languages. If confirmed, such a shared-streaming arrangement would allow the film to reach a wider international audience while Sun NXT remains its primary digital platform.
With its strong theatrical performance and upcoming OTT release, DC is set to continue its run beyond cinemas and reach an even larger audience online.
