The Mumbai police have booked all accused involved in the murder of veteran Maharashtra politician Baba Siddique under the stringent MCOC Act. The police have so far arrested 26 accused in connection with the probe and are on the lookout for three more.
According to reports, Mumbai police’s crime branch has invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act against all 26 accused in the case. As per the law, it will be difficult to secure bail under the harsh law and confessions made to the police under MCOCA are admissible as evidence in court. A senior Mumbai police confirmed with PTI the development.
Baba Siddique (66), the Nationalist Congress Party leader was gunned down by assailants outside his son Zeeshan’s office in Mumbai on October 12. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has allegedly claimed responsibility for the attack police nabbed all three shooters in the case. Police are on the lookout for key conspirators Shubham Lonkar and Zishan Mohammad Akhtar.

The Bishnoi gang allegedly targeted the Maharashtra leader for his close ties with actor Salman Khan, another celebrity on the gang’s hit list. Recently, Bishnoi’s brother Anmol was arrested in the United States for his alleged role in Siddique’s murder and attacks outside Salman Khan’s house.
Police recently arrested main shooter Shivkumar Gautam from Uttar Pradesh while he was plotting to escape out of the country. Gautam told police that he was promised Rs 10 lakh for killing Siddique. According to police, Gautam managed to change his attire after the assassination and he waited outside Lilavati hospital amongst the crowd for over 30 minutes to confirm Siddique’s death.
