The Maharashtra government has sacked two members of the Pune Juvenile Justice Board for ‘misuse of power’, following a probe into alleged lapses in the bail granted to minor involved in Pune Porsche crash case. The 17-year-old boy involved in the incident in May was granted bail by the Board under flimsy conditions.

The state women and child development (WCD) department conducted a probe into alleged irregularities after huge uproar over bail granted to the juvenile under lenient conditions. The department has terminated the service of two members – L.N. Danwade and Kavita Thorat – for “procedural lapses, misconduct and non-compliance with norms".

WCD Department Commissioner Prashant Narnavare told PTI, "I had given the probe panel report to the state government and recommended that the appointment of the two members should be terminated.” The probe report was submitted to the government in July and action was initiated to terminate them after it was found they misused their powers.

"The report, recommending the termination, was sent to the state government in July. The state government on Tuesday terminated the appointment of both the members as they were found guilty of misusing their powers, which have been provided under the Juvenile Justice Act," he said.

Two IT professionals were killed in May after a speeding Porche driven by a 17-year-old boy dashed against a two-wheeler in Pune. The youth was allegedly in an inebriated condition and the JJB granted bail to the juvenile within hours after the incident. The bail was granted under flimsy conditions, including writing a 300-word essay on road accidents.

Following huge uproar, the boy was later sent to observation home. Besides the youth, his parents and grandfather are facing charges for tampering evidence in the case and threatening their driver to accept the crime.
