Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has removed Rajesh Shah, whose son Mihir Shah was allegedly involved in the BMW hit-and-run, from the post of deputy leader.

A statement by the party said Rajesh Shah has been relieved from the post of the party's deputy leader. The one-line statement did not add any other details.

This comes as the BMC authorities on Wednesday razed down the illegal portion of the bar in Juhu that served alcohol to Mihir Shah. The outlet will face action for functioning without a proper licence and for illegal construction on the property.

The Vice-Global Tapas Bar allegedly sold liquor to Shah, despite him being below the legal age for drinking in Maharastra. Shah is 23 and the legal age for drinking in the state is 25. The state excise administration has suspended the bar's licence and sealed its premises until the next hearing.

This came as the Excise Department also found various irregularities, including the use of different names by the bar. While the licence was in the name of Don Giovanni Restaurant (Jobel Hospitalities Pvt Ltd bearing license number FL3,1489), the name on the cash memo or receipt was Vice-Global Tapas Bar.

The bar also faces action for non-submission of licensed premises for inspection, mixing the permitted liquor serving area with the non-permitted restaurant zone, discrepancies in the liquor stock permitted versus non-permitted and lack of a liquor transport license for a certain amount of liquor stock.

Tracking Mihir

The Mumbai police arrested Mihir on Tuesday, two days after he rammed his BMW car into a two-wheeler, killing 45-year-old Kaveri Nakhwa and leaving her husband injured. Mihir is the son of Rajesh Shah, a Shiv Sena Eknath Shinde faction leader.

Mihir, who was absconding for 72 hours after the incident, was tracked down by the police after his friend made the mistake of switching on his mobile phone for 15 minutes.

Police said Mihir fled from the Kala Nagar area after the crime in an auto rickshaw to his woman friend's residence in suburban Goregaon. The friend contacted Mihir's sister, who reached Goregaon, and took both Mihir and his friend to her Borivali residence.

Mihir's family then decided to flee to a resort at Shahapur in Thane district in an Audi car. Mihir, his mother Meena, sisters Kinjal and Pooja and two friends stayed at the resort.

After learning the identity of one of the friends accompanying Mihir, Mumbai Police tracked his number, but this friend too had switched off his mobile phone. However, on Monday evening, Mihir and his friend left the Shahapur resort and reached Virar, where his friend switched on his mobile phone for 15 minutes. Police immediately tracked down the mobile tower location and intercepted the duo, the official added.
