Two youngsters lost their lives after being run over by a Porsche car in Pune's Kalyani Nagar area in the early hours of Saturday. According to reports, an underaged driver rammed his Porsche into two victims, who died on the spot. The 17-year-old reportedly tried to flee the spot in his damaged car but was stopped and manhandled by locals, reports said.

Multiple news portals claimed that the Porsche was being used on the road sans any registration plates.

The bike-borne victims were identified by Marathi media reports as Anis and Ashwini, both native to Rajasthan. The duo were part of a group that was travelling towards Yerwada after attending a party with their friends. The speeding Porsche rammed into their vehicle from behind, reports said quoting eyewitnesses.

After knocking down the duo, the car crashed into the roadside pavement railings. Airbags in the car were deployed following the accident, they added.

A case was registered against the car driver at the Yerawada police station under various Indian Penal Code sections, including 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 304A (causing death of any person by doing any rash or negligent act not amounting to culpable homicide), 337 (causing hurt to any person by doing any act so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life or personal safety of others) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), and provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. It was a friend of the victims who approached the cops with a formal complaint.

The underaged driver is the son of a wealthy Pune-based builder. He was produced before the court and granted bail, reports said.

The police had earlier said that they are in the process of taking legal action against the boy's parents, an official said.
