Bengaluru police has booked former Karnataka Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader B.S. Yediyurappa for allegedly sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl.
The victim’s mother alleged the former chief minister assaulted her daughter during a meeting on February 2 and Sadashivanagar police in Bengaluru has registered a case against Yediyurappa. According to police, a case has been booked under section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act and Section 354 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
However, Yediyurappa denied the charges and said he wouldn’t allege at the moment there is a political motive behind it. “A few days ago a woman came to my house. She was crying saying that there was some problem. I asked her what was the matter and I personally called the police commissioner about the matter and told him to help her. Later, the woman started talking against me. I have brought this matter to the attention of the police commissioner. Yesterday, the police filed a complaint against me. Let's see what happens next, I can't say that there is a political motive behind this,” ANI quoted the BJP leader as saying.
Home Minister G. Parameshwara said it was a sensitive case and protection would be given to the distressed woman if required. “Last night around 10pm, a lady registered a complaint against B.S. Yediyurappa. Police have registered the case. Until we know the truth, we can't reveal anything. This is a sensitive thing as it involves a former CM. I don't think there is any political angle to this. If the distressed woman needs protection, then it will be given,” Parameshwara said.
