A police constable was injured after militants fired at him in Hamdaniya Colony, Bemina, Srinagar on Saturday evening.
Hafiz Ahmed, a resident of Hamdaniya Colony, sustained wounds to his right arm and abdomen and has been transported to SKIMS Bemina, reportedly in stable condition.
Following the attack, security forces swiftly cordoned off the area to apprehend the attackers.
Recent years have seen militants targeting policemen, reflecting a concerning trend.
The incident follows the recent directive from the police, urging adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) by all officers and ranks during duty or leave.
The directive aims to prevent occurrences similar to the attack on police inspector Masroor Ahmed Wani on October 29 in Eidgah, Srinagar. Wani, who battled for 39 days, succumbed to a head injury at AIIMS on Thursday.
During his wreath-laying ceremony, ADGP Law and Order J&K Vijay Kumar stressed the importance of strict adherence to SoPs. He underscored the need for all personnel to rigorously follow these procedures while on leave or during duty to mitigate the risk of becoming targets.
The funeral of the slain police inspector was attended by senior police officers and a substantial gathering of mourners.
