"Drishyam 3: The Conclusion", the Hindi crime thriller starring Ajay Devgn, has made a spectacular start at the box office. According to the latest tracking data from Sacnilk, the film has crossed the ₹100 crore net mark in India in just two days. With strong audience response, high occupancy and a powerful overseas performance, the film is now firmly on course for a huge opening weekend.
Directed by Abhishek Pathak, "Drishyam 3" brings back the story of Vijay Salgaonkar, played by Ajay Devgn. The film also features Jaideep Ahlawat, Prakash Raj and Tabu in important roles. The combination of a popular franchise, a major star cast and strong advance demand has helped the film become a major theatrical event.
The film opened with an impressive ₹62 crore net in India on Day 1. On Saturday, Day 2, it collected another ₹53.50 crore net. While this represented a decline of around 13.7 per cent from its opening day, the drop was relatively small considering the size of the initial collection.
After two days, the film's total India net collection stands at ₹115.50 crore. Its India gross collection has reached approximately ₹138.60 crore.
The film also maintained a strong presence across cinemas. On Saturday, it recorded an overall occupancy of 46.1 per cent across 16,868 shows nationwide. These numbers indicate that the film continued to attract audiences even after its huge opening day.
The overseas market has further strengthened the numbers. "Drishyam 3" earned approximately ₹20 crore overseas on Day 2, taking its total overseas gross to ₹38.50 crore. With the Indian gross, the film's worldwide gross has reached approximately ₹177.10 crore after only two days.
If Sunday follows the expected upward trend, the film could comfortably cross the ₹200 crore worldwide mark by the end of its opening weekend.
The performance of "Drishyam 3" becomes even more impressive when compared with the earlier films in the franchise. The original "Drishyam", released in 2015, began as a relatively modest theatrical performer. It collected about ₹5.85 crore net on its first day and around ₹6.50 crore on the second day, giving it a two-day total of approximately ₹12.35 crore. Its eventual worldwide gross was around ₹110 crore.
The 2022 sequel, in comparison, earned ₹15.38 crore on Day 1 and ₹21.59 crore on Day 2, reaching ₹36.97 crore in two days. It eventually earned over ₹342 crore worldwide.
"Drishyam 3" has taken that growth to another level. Unlike the original film, which relied heavily on word of mouth, the third instalment arrived with enormous advance demand and the scale of a major event release.
