A massive row was triggered by Congress leader Digvijaya Singh with his remarks on BJP “planning Nuh-like communal violence” in Madhya Pradesh. Ahead of the elections, while speaking at an event in Bhopal on Saturday, Singh said that BJP has “orchestrated violence” in Haryana.

BJP can sense its imminent defeat in the upcoming elections and therefore they are planning riots, added Singh.

“The way these people caused communal violence in Nuh in Haryana, they have plans to instigate such riots (in Madhya Pradesh),” Singh was quoted by NDTV.

There is a lot of resentment against the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government in the state, he said.

"Hopefully we are going to form the next government in the state," he added.

"I have never witnessed such injustice and oppression against the minority community in my life. I have received information that the government is devising a scheme. Just as they orchestrated communal riots in Haryana's Nuh, they seem to have a plan to instigate riots here. This strategy is driven by the BJP's understanding that the people in the state harbour anger and resentment against them," Singh was quoted by Times of India.

Facing backlash for his controversial remarks, BJP president V.D. Sharma said that Singh has no credibility left in the party.

"He is known for making such baseless allegations," said Sharma.

“We do politics of development...Digvijay Singh left Madhya Pradesh in 2003 in a pitiable condition, and it was his party which made development in that region,” said Sharma.

For the upcoming assembly elections, BJP has announced 39 candidates for 230-member Madhya Pradesh House.

Former Chief Minister Kamal Nath, Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha and other dignitaries took part in the event.

Earlier he had said that if Congress won't ban Bajrang Dal in MP if it comes to power. "There are good people in Bajrang Dal as well," he had said.
