Amid ruckus in the Rajya Sabha, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh was suspended for the entire Monsoon session. Singh was suspended for violating the directives of the chair.
Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar announced that his suspension after a motion was moved by Leader of the House Piyush Goyal.
"Sanjay Singh is suspended as a member during the entire session of this House," said the chairman.
The motion to suspend Singh was taken by the House by voice vote.
Opposition raised slogans demanding PM Modi's statement on Manipur issue in the House. During the uproar, Singh had moved to the centre of the well and pointed fingers at the chairman. Despite Dhankhar's warning Singh kept on raising voice at the chair.
He was cautioned for his "unruly behaviour".
Later, the House was adjourned as opposition continued to create an uproar over the Manipur violence.
"This kind of behaviour ....and disturbing the House is completely against the ethics and rules of the House. The government wants to move a motion to suspend Sanjay Singh," said Goyal.
The chairman said, "The motion is that Sanjay Singh is suspended for the entire duration of this session having repeatedly violated the directives of the chair" and asked the House if it approved it.
AAP leader and Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said the decision was unfortunate. "If Sanjay Singh is suspended for raising his voice for the truth, then we are not upset...But this is unfortunate," Bharadwaj said.
