Madhya Pradesh Youth attack video Screengrabs from the video

Following the viral video of the infamous urination incident from Sidhi, another atrocious video of a minority community youth being beaten up with slippers and fists and made to lick the foot sole of one of the accused surfaced in Madhya Pradesh, causing a fresh round of indignation.

The incident occurred on June 30 in Dabra of Gwalior – the native town of state home minister Narottam Mishra – but the video went viral only on Friday night. The Gwalior police have arrested two of the accused – Golu Gurjar and Sudip Gurjar - in the case and are looking for other two, Tejendra Gurjar and Amit Gurjar, on whom cases of abduction, assault and attempt to murder has been registered, sub-divisional officer of police of Dabra, Vivek Sharma told THE WEEK. In the video, Golu is seen beating up the victim Mohsin Khan in a moving vehicle and making Khan lick his foot soles.

According to sources, the younger brother of Golu Gurjar had been beaten up by Khan and his associates a few months ago and an FIR of assault was registered against Khan and others. Golu and his friends allegedly abducted and beat up Khan in retribution. However, SDOP Sharma told THE WEEK that the police are not yet linking the two cases, though the probe was still on.

Home minister Narottam Mishra said on Saturday that no accused in any such incident will be spared.

However, the opposition Congress sharply attacked the government on the rising incidents of atrocities.

“Hooliganism continues in Madhya Pradesh, after the atrocities of Dalit-tribals, now a minority youth was kidnapped in a car, abused, beaten with slippers and made to lick (foot) sole. The case pertains to the home minister's home town, Dabra. The accused is out of reach of the police. Narottam Mishra should resign from his post,” former president of MP Congress Arun Yadav tweeted on Saturday morning.

Media department head K.K. Mishra said political hooligans in Madhya Pradesh are under the protection of the government. “A youth of a particular community was abducted, beaten up with slippers in a moving car in the home town of home minister Narottam Mishra. Where is the state going?” he tweeted.

Tribals assaulted

Meanwhile on Saturday, another case of a tribal family allegedly beaten up, their house set on fire and garlanded with shoes by an influential family in the village came to light.

The incident occurred late on Friday night in Gohinda under Bhitarwar police station of Gwalior. Bhitarwar police have registered FIR against five persons including one Nanu Tiwari and a search is on for them, Superintendent of Police of Gwalior, Rajesh Chandel told local media persons.

According to sources, the matter pertains to the alleged attempts of Nanu Tiwari and his associates to take possession of a high-priced land near the local main road on which the tribal family was residing. Tiwari and his associates had assaulted the family earlier too. On Friday night, the accused allegedly assaulted the family of Banwari Adiwasi, hit them with gun butts, burnt down their house and put garlands of shoes around their neck. A video of Nanu Tiwari threatening the family before the incident has also been made available to the police.
