A BJP leader in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna has been accused of mowing down a farmer over a land dispute. The accused, Mahendra Nagar, is also accused of tearing the clothes of the minor daughters of the victim, identified as Ramswaroop Dhakad, according to local media reports.
The incident happened on Sunday afternoon at Ganeshpura village following a dispute, following which the BJP leader’s men launched a deadly attack on Ramswaroop and his family. The entire dispute was reportedly regarding six bighas of land.
The farmer was en route to his land when the attackers, wielding sticks, assaulted him. The dispute escalated, and Mahendra Nagar crushed Ramswaroop with his Thar. On seeing this, the victim’s 17-year-old daughters, Tanisha and Krishna, rushed to help him. Mahendra Nagar attacked them with sticks and tore away their clothes.
Ramswaroop was rushed to the nearby health centre before being referred to the Guna District Hospital. But he died during treatment.
Mahendra Nagar is a local BJP leader and is accused of intimidating small farmers and seizing their land, according to local Hindi reports. There are allegations that approximately 25 farmers from Ganeshpura village have sold their land at throwaway prices after succumbing to Mahendra Nagar’s threats. Ramswaroop Dhakad apparently opposed his terror reign, which resulted in his murder, according to Aaj Tak.
SDOP Vivek Ashthana said that a land dispute arose between two families. Police have filed a case against Mahendra Nagar and three women from his family. Fourteen other people have also been accused. Raids are underway to arrest them.
Bamhori MLA Rishi Agarwal also expressed regret over the incident. The Congress MLA demanded the immediate arrest of the accused. He also alleged that the Mohan government has increased the terror of the BJP leaders.
