The Congress high command has approved the name of Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu as the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, reports said on Saturday. Sukhu's name will be officially announced after the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting which will be held in the evening, reported ANI.
“I am not yet aware of the decision of the high command. I am going to the CLP meeting which will happen at 5 pm,” Sukhu told the news agency.
According to an NDTV report, state Congress president Pratibha Singh is out of the race to be the chief minister as she doesn't enjoy enough support among the newly-elected 40 MLAs.
Sukhu, the former party state chief and a third-time MLA from Nadaun, reportedly has the support of at least 25 MLAs.
