Yoga guru Baba Ramdev stirred up a controversy on Friday after he allegedly made a sexist comment on women's attires at an event in Maharashtra.

"Women look good in saris, they look great in salwar suits, and in my view, they look good also if they don't wear anything,” Ramdev said, addressing the yoga science camp and women's meeting in Thane.

Several prominent personalities including MP Shrikant Shinde, son of Chef Minister Eknath Shinde, and singer Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, were on the stage when Ramdev made the remarks.

The event was organised by Patanjali Yoga Peeth and Mumbai Mahila Patanjali Yoga Samiti.

Since the meeting began soon after a free yoga training session, many women did not get time to change their dress and attended the meeting in their  yoga suits.

Observing this, Ramdev said: “If you are not able to wear a sari then there is no problem… Now go home and wear a sari”. He then made the controversial comment.
