The Delhi police have revealed chilling details of the murder of a young woman in the national capital—a case that could remind you of several true crime documentaries from the US. According to police sources quoted by NDTV, a man, identified as Aftab Ameen Poonawalla, strangled his 26-year-old live-in partner Shraddha Walkar, chopped her body into 35 pieces and dumped them in a forest area.
Sources said that Aftab bought a fridge to store the dismembered body, and disposed of the pieces over the course of 18 days in different areas of Delhi's Mehrauli forest.
Aftab, who was arrested on Saturday, confessed to killing Shraddha.
Shraddha met Aftab at the call centre where she was working. They moved in together after dating for a few months. Aftab allegedly murdered Shraddha in May after they got into an argument over the subject of marriage. "The duo fell in love while working in Mumbai and came to Delhi by April-end or May first week after facing opposition from their families. While they were living in the national capital, they had an argument in mid-May over marriage, which escalated and he strangled her," Ankit Chauhan, Additional DCP-I, South district, said.
Some severed body parts of the woman have been recovered, police officials said on Monday, adding that the weapon used in the crime is yet to be found.
Shradhha was not in touch with her family who had not approved of their relationship. In November, however, her father Vikas Madaan came to Delhi to check on his daughter, only to find their Mehrauli flat locked. He approached the Mehrauli Police and filed a complaint alleging kidnapping.
pic.twitter.com/aMppxvu8zv

Swati Maliwal, Chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women, tweeted about the heart-wrenching crime on Monday. In a tweet in Hindi, she demanded maximum punishment for the 'predator' and questioned how such people were living freely in our society.
