Another wave of PFI raids across 8 states: Over 100 activists detained

Raids are conducted jointly by central agencies and police

In another crackdown, over 100 Popular Front of India (PFI) workers were detained in nationwide raids that took place on Tuesday. The Central agencies along with Anti-Terrorism Squads are conducting raids in many states including Karnataka, Delhi, Assam, Maharastra, Uttar Pradesh, and Telangana. 

Several PFI leaders and workers are detained by the police as 'Operation Octopus' intensifies.

In a fresh operation launched in Assam, police have arrested around 25 PFI activists. Around 10 PFI activists were held in the Goalpara district. According to Hiren Nath, ADGP, Assam, the operation against PFI is on in many parts of the district. 

Also, Kamrup District Police detained four persons linked with PFI from the Nagarbera area. 

Joint raids by ATS and Delhi Police are underway at different parts of the national capital including the Nizamuddin and Shaheen Bagh areas. Around 30 PFI activists were arrested by Delhi Police. 

At least four people were taken into custody in connection with various cases in the house raids conducted by the police in several parts of the Udupi district. According to police sources, the raids were conducted at Hoode, Gangolli, and Byndoor in the district.

Meanwhile, five PFI activists have been arrested from the Kottayam and Kollam districts of Kerala for allegedly engaging in violent activities during the state-wide hartal called by the organisation on September 23 under nation-wide raids on their offices and arrests of their leaders.

According to Maharastra ATS, 13 people have been detained from Aurangabad and 2 from Malegaon. All are active members of PFI, interrogation is going on. 

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has claimed that documents seized during the nationwide raids conducted at offices of PFI and its members contain highly incriminating materials targeting prominent leaders of a particular community.
