In a heinous crime, a man in Bilaspur of Chhattisgarh, sodomised and killed his four-year-old son as he suspected the character of his wife. The accused, Madan Lal Suryawanshi confessed to the crime during police interrogation and was arrested within five hours of the crime being reported.
Bilaspur city superintendent of police (CSP) Snehil Sahu confirmed to THE WEEK that Suryawanshi confessed to the murder of four-year-old Divyansh alias Shourya on Friday evening as he suspected that the child was not his son. The CSP added that though the preliminary probe indicates sodomy with the kid before murder, it will be confirmed only after detailed postmortem report becomes available.
According to the police, they received information that the body of Divyansh, who had gone missing on Friday evening, was found near his home in Selar village under Seepat police station in the wee hours of Saturday. The police team during the preliminary probe found that the child had not returned home after going out to play at 4.00 pm on Friday.
Questioning of the locals and spot evidence suggested murder and initial suspicion fell on the father of the deceased as the child had been seen last with Suryawanshi.
The accused confessed to the murder during interrogation and said that he had killed Divyansh early on Friday evening under the influence of liquor and kept the body at home initially. Later in the night he shifted the body to a storeroom at his in-laws’ place in the neighbourhood.
In the wee hours of Saturday, he threw the body in the by-lane near his home, where it was discovered by the family members who had started searching for the kid again early in the morning. The accused also confessed that he suspected that the kid was not his son, police said.
Sources said there was blood on the private parts of the body of the child and the police suspected that he had been sodomised. Suryawanshi is said to have confessed that under the influence of liquor he sodomised the child at his home and when Divyansh started crying, strangulated him.
Sources further said that Suryawanshi and his wife, who had a love marriage a few years ago, would constantly quarrel. The wife is said to have told the police that Suryawanshi often wanted to have unnatural sex with her and when she denied, he would cast aspersions on her character. This led to repeated quarrels between them. On the day of the incident too, the wife had gone to her parents' place after a quarrel, but Suryawanshi brought her back to his home in the afternoon and demanded unnatural sex again. This led to a fresh quarrel and the wife went back to her parents' place leaving Divyansh back, though she took away the couple’s one-year-old daughter. Suryawanshi committed the crime after this, sources said.
