Tamil Nadu will convene a special session of the legislative assembly to pass another bill for the exemption of NEET-based admissions for medical courses in the state.

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin convened an all-party meet today, where it was decided to pass a fresh bill in the assembly on the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test.

The bill after it is passed will be sent to Governor R.N. Ravi again. The governor had returned the earlier bill to the assembly speaker, expressing his reservations against it. Ravi said that the bill would affect the interests of students in rural areas.

The AIADMK and the BJP boycotted the meeting with the chief minister today.

“I met the governor over the NEET exam issue,” said Stalin at the all-party meet. “I called the all-party meet earlier and a resolution was passed for exemption. I appealed to the PM in a virtual meeting when he opened 11 new medical colleges.

“Now, the governor, after keeping our bill on his desk for 143 days, has sent it back.”

“It is the demand of 8 crore people to give exemption from NEET exam, passed unanimously in the state assembly. I ask you all—representatives of political parties—to give your valuable feedback in today's all-party meeting.”

All parties present unanimously agreed to the special session, which the state's health minister said will not affect the conducting of the local elections.
