Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has tested positive for COVID-19. He said that his symptoms are mild.

In a tweet, he said he has isolated himself at home and requested those whom he has been in contact with to do the same.

Kejriwal has been campaigning for the Aam Aadmi Party, addressing large crowds in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Uttarakhand.

He addressed a rally in Dehradun on Monday and in Amritsar and Patiala the day before.

There has been a spike in COVID cases in the national capital as test positivity rate reached 6.46 per cent on Monday.

Delhi reported 4,099 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, a steep rise from the 3,194 cases on Sunday.

The Delhi Disaster Management Authority will hold a meeting today as the capital braces itself for more stringent curbs.

According to Delhi Health Minister Satyender Jain, genome sequencing reports from three labs on December 30-31 showed that 81 per cent samples were infected with the Omicron variant.

Delhi has reported 382 cases of the Omicron strain as of Tuesday morning.

Delhi has been under a 'yellow alert' since December 29—this includes the shutting down of educational institutions, cinemas and gyms, while shops open on an odd-even basis.

The DDMA is likely to announce more restrictions under a 'red alert' if the test positivity rate remains above 5 per cent for two consecutive days. This would mean a complete lockdown with certain exemptions.
