New Zealand cricketers have always been a regular feature in the Indian Premier League. After all, it was a New Zealander who set the league ablaze in the very first game of the opening season. Brendon McCullum's historic ton set the tone for what the IPL has become and there have been numerous Kiwis who have been part of the tournament across the years.
Tim Seifert could be another entry into that list of New Zealand superstars in the IPL. For some reason, this dashing wicket-keeper batter hasn't had much exposure in the tournament. He was part of Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals in the past, but to no real avail. However, this time, that could change.

On Monday (December 15), Seifert slammed his fifth T20 ton during the Big Bash League encounter between Melbourne Renegades and Brisbane Heat in Geelong. It was a typical Seifert innings as he opened the batting and almost batted through the innings, falling only in the last ball of the 19th over.
Seifert is an aggressive wicket-keeper batter who can bat anywhere in the top order. He has also batted in the lower middle order but batting in the top-three is where Seifert's skills can be optimised. The New Zealander loves to maximise the powerplay and is excellent against pace. He also has the ramps and reverse scoop strokes in his kitty to disrupt the fast bowlers.
Over the years, Seifert has also improved his game against spin considerably. He may not be flawless but can still take down the tweakers with his unorthodox approach. Teams like Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals could do with a dashing opener who can also keep wickets.
It may be far-fetched to think that Seifert will go for a big price but he is definitely in the reckoning for getting a contract at the IPL 2026 Auction to be held in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday (December 16).
