In recent years, Diwali has witnessed a polarising debate on the use of firecrackers, given the risk of pollution in many parts of India.

On Wednesday, spiritual leader Jaggi Vasudev (popularly known as Sadhguru) declared children should experience the joy of bursting firecrackers.

Sadhguru released a video giving his views on crackers. Sadhguru spoke about how, as a child, he would wait for Diwali to burst firecrackers. "Let not people who are suddenly environmentally active say, 'No child should have crackers'. This is not a good way to go."

Sadhguru said those who were concerned about pollution on account of crackers could for three days, "walk to your office, don't drive the car. Let children have the fun of bursting crackers."

Sadhguru's video, which was uploaded on Wednesday morning, was retweeted over 8,000 times and liked by over 18,000 users in five hours.

Movie actor Kangana Ranaut shared the video on Instagram stories, captioning it "Don't Ban Firecrackers." She noted the Sadhguru video was the "Perfect answer to all Diwali environment activists... walk to your office… don't use cars for three days".
