The Haryana Police has deployed large number of additional personnel to Karnal ahead of a protest by farmers' groups at the mini-secretariat in the city.

Farmers' groups had called for laying siege to the mini-secretariat at Karnal over the lathi-charge on protesters on August 28.

Ganga Ram Punia, the SP of Karnal, was quoted by ANI as saying, "District administration and police have made necessary security arrangements in wake of the kisan mahapanchayat. A total of 40 companies have been deployed to maintain law and order. Public activities are going on without interruption."

Punia added, "We want kisan mahapanchayat to be conducted peacefully and conflict to be resolved through mutual conversation. We spoke with farmer leaders yesterday on the matter. Police will take action if law and order is disturbed."

The Tribune reported that 10 companies of Central paramilitary organisations—BSF, CRPF and RAF—are among the additional security personnel deployed in different parts of Karnal.

"Besides, five SP-rank officials and 25 DSPs have been assigned the duty to ensure law and order. Police are also using drone cameras to keep vigil on the farmers," The Tribune reported.

On Monday, the Haryana government imposed prohibitory orders in Karnal and suspended internet services in the district and four others. The mobile internet service will remain suspended in Karnal, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind and Panipat districts with effect from 12 am to 11:59 pm on Tuesday.

The farmers had warned of laying siege to the civil secretariat if the government did not institute action against then SDM of Karnal, Ayush Sinha, who allegedly ordered policemen to "break heads" of protesters on August 28.

The farmers had also sought registration of a case against those involved in the lathi-charge and grant of Rs 25 lakh compensation and a government job to the kin of a farmer who died in the violence on August 28.

The farmers’ groups have announced they would hold a mahapanchayat on Tuesday morning before proceeding to blockade the mini-secretariat.
