A 30-year-old woman was found dead in Chandigarh’s Rose Garden on Saturday. Police have not yet been able to confirm the cause of the woman’s death as either murder or suicide.

The body of the Diksha Thakur was found with her throat slit inside the Rose Garden’s women’s washroom. Sector 17 police recovered a knife that is believed to have been used to slit the victim’s throat from the scene.

Police are now reviewing CCTV camera footage and have kept the body for an autopsy at the GMSH-16.

Police are probing both the suicide and murder angles. They are also examining her call records.

The details

Some people nearby heard a scream from the Rose Garden’s women’s toilet around 3.15 pm on Saturday and informed a traffic police personnel who was at the gate. The traffic personnel asked a woman who was nearby to go inside the washroom and check. She saw that the woman was covered in blood with a gash on her neck, seemingly caused by a knife. There were no other wounds found on her body.

The police were called to the site. The injured woman was still breathing but died within a few moments, police said. Doctors at the government hospital, just a few meters away from the place, declared her dead.

Police identified the woman as Diksha Thakur through documents found in her belongings at the scene. They also recovered the four-inch knife, which was used on the victim. She had an application form related to the Bihar Staff Selection Commission with her mobile phone and some anti-depressant tablets.

officials said Diksha was from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh. They also found that she had separated from her husband for a year and had a three-year-old son with him.

For the past four months, she stayed at Phase 11 of Mohali and worked as the customer care executive with a private media and OTT company, Chaupal TV, located in the industrial area.

Her family at Saharanpur Up was contacted, and they reached Chandigarh by evening.
