External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Thursday led a briefing by the ministry of external affairs for floor leaders of all parties in Parliament on the situation in Afghanistan.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had directed the ministry of external affairs earlier this week to brief all parties on the situation in Afghanistan and evacuation of Indians from that country.
Jaishankar was accompanied by Union Ministers Piyush Goyal and Pralhad Joshi and senior diplomats at the briefing at the Parliament Annexe. Indian ambassador to Afghanistan Rudrendra Tandon and Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla were also present.
The Times of India reported, "NCP leader Sharad Pawar, leader of the opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, leader of Congress party in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, DMK's T.R. Baalu, former prime minister H.D. Deve Gowda, Apna Dal's Anupriya Patel are some of the leaders attending the crucial meet."
On Wednesday, the ministry of home affairs had mandated that only e-visas would be accepted for Afghans seeking to enter the country.
