It was expected that the decision of Bollywood star Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao to end their marriage would provoke strong reactions.

Now, a BJP MP is holding "people like Aamir Khan" responsible for the "population imbalance” in the country.

Sudhir Gupta, the BJP MP representing Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh in the Lok Sabha, made the comments while talking to reporters on World Population Day on Sunday.

Gupta declared India's landmass had not increased an inch, but its population had touched 140 crore. "During the Partition, Pakistan got vast portion of the land but comparatively lesser population and that too had forced large chunk of the population back into India without partaking any land in lieu of the same,” Gupta was quoted as saying by News 18.

Gupta declared, "Talking in Indian perspective, people’s hero is Aamir Khan… whose first wife Reena with kids and Kiran Rao with one kid has been left to wander around by Khan who is unbothered and has started the search for the third wife," News 18 reported.

Gupta claimed, "It’s ironical that people like Aamir Khan have a role to play in population imbalance in the country." He added he agreed with the views of those who claimed people like Aamir had "no brains for job other than selling eggs".

Gupta argued India needed "population control" and should rein in "distorted mentality" of the people.

Aamir Khan has previously been targeted by figures in the BJP, with some leaders referring to him as being an example of a person indulging in love jihad.
