I don't feel the need to get vaccinated against COVID-19, says Baba Ramdev

He claimed that a section of the society is deliberately ignoring ayurveda

HEALTH-CORONAVIRUS/INDIA-YOGA

Continuing his ongoing feud with the modern medicine, yoga guru Baba Ramdev said he does not feel the need to get vaccinated against COVID-19 as he has been practicing yoga-ayurveda doses for decades.

According to Hindustan Times, Ramdev said over 100 crore people of India and abroad can avail these ancient therapies and added that ayurveda will find global acceptance in the coming years. He claimed that a section of the society is deliberately ignoring ayurveda or consider it inferior to allopathy.

Ramdev's views on allopathy had drawn a sharp rebuke from the IMA. Ramdev was forced to withdraw a statement made in the viral video clip in which he was heard questioning some of the medicines being used to treat the coronavirus infection and saying that "lakhs have died from taking allopathic medicines for COVID-19".

After the remarks were met with vociferous protests from the doctors' association, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan asked him to withdraw the "extremely unfortunate" statement. The IMA too had asked the health minister to take action against Ramdev under the Epidemic Disease Act, saying his “unlearned statements” are a "threat to the literate society of the country as well as to the poor people falling prey to him". It had also threatened to move court if the government failed to take action against him.

The yoga guru withdrew his statements on May 23.
