The Karnataka government has decided to extend the state-wide lockdown till June 7.
Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, on Friday, said the decision was taken after a meeting with senior officials and ministers. "We had a meeting with senior officials and ministers. We have taken a decision on lockdown. We had strict restrictions till May 24. As per the opinion of experts, we are extending the strict restrictions till June 7," the CM was quoted as saying.
The lockdown, announced on May 10, was to end on May 24.
Yediyurappa clarified that all the restrictions that have been in place will continue till 6 am on June 7.
According to The News Minute, the chief minister observed that people are violating lockdown norms and asked the police to initiate action against those not adhering to the restrictions.
The chief minister further said the government has decided to give free treatment for Mucormycosis (black fungus) patients in government district hospitals.

Meanwhile, the state government, in an order on Friday, said COVID-19 vaccination drive for people in the 18-44 years age group will be resumed from Saturday. The decision came eight days after the government ordered the suspension of the vaccination drive for this group in the absence of adequate supply of vaccines. The state government also clarified that other priority groups will be vaccinated as per the list.
"Vaccination for 18-44 years age group is being resumed from May 22 and state procured vaccines will be utilised to vaccinate the eligible beneficiaries," the order stated.
The state has been witnessing a decline in COVID-19 cases with recoveries outnumbering new cases on Thursday, even as the number of deaths continued to remain high. There were as many as 52,257 discharges against 28,869 new infections on Thursday.
