Months after a farmers' protest 'toolkit' was in the headlines for weeks, another toolkit has led to sparring between the BJP and Congress.
On Tuesday, Sambit Patra, BJP spokesperson, tweeted screenshots of what he called the "Congress toolkit", which was aimed at "extending help to the needy during the pandemic".
Patra tweeted the toolkit was "More of a PR exercise with the help of 'Friendly Journalists' & 'Influencers' than a soulful endeavour."
Patra claimed the toolkit showed, "Congress workers [were] instructed to call the mutant strain as 'Modi strain'. No stone left unturned to scar the name of India with the help of Foreign Journalists!!"
Some of the contents of the purported toolkit shared by Patra include ways to dent the image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Methods include liaising with foreign journalists, use of "dramatic images of funerals and dead bodies" and social media volunteers calling the mutant strain of COVID as "Modi strain".
The Organiser, the mouthpiece of the RSS, reported the Congress toolkit, which it claimed was prepared by the research department of the Congress, had a section devoted to the recent Kumbh Mela. "The toolkit makes a mockery of Maha Kumbh Mela and asks the leaders to remain silent of Eid gatherings. The Maha Kumbh Mela is asked to be addressed as ‘Super Spreader Kumbh’. It also asks the Congress leaders to portray Kumbh Mela as a ‘political power in the name of religion’..."

Rajeev Gowda, who is chairman of the All India Congress Committee's Research Department, on Tuesday afternoon tweeted the party would initiate legal action against Patra and BJP chief J.P. Nadda over the toolkit. Gowda tweeted, "BJP is propagating a fake 'toolkit' on 'COVID-19 mismanagement' & attributing it to AICC Research Department. We are filing an FIR for forgery against @jpnadda & @sambitswaraj When our country is devastated by COVID, instead of providing relief, BJP shamelessly concocts forgeries."
The Congress Twitter handle shared the tweeted by Gowda and noted, "If BJP had spent as much time & effort in helping people, they wouldn't have to spread lies about the people who are doing their jobs for them. It is a shame that our govt is more interested in maligning the opposition than protecting our people."
