Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has been admitted to Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after testing positive for COVID-19, reports said.
The Congress veteran underwent the virus test after he experienced mild fever and was admitted to the Trauma Centre around 5 pm.
Singh had received both doses of Covaxin—the first on March 4 and the second on April 3.
"Dear Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji, Wishing you a speedy recovery. India needs your guidance and advice in this difficult time," Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet.
AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot were among others who wished Singh a speedy recovery.
Singh on Sunday had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggesting five measures to battle the COVID-19 crisis, including ramping up vaccination and boosting the supply of medicines.
In a letter to Modi, Singh had said one must not look at absolute numbers but the total percentage of the population that has been vaccinated.
Invoking compulsory licensing provisions for drug manufacturers and giving some flexibility to states to define categories of frontline workers who can be vaccinated even if they are below 45 years are some of the steps mooted by him.
On Saturday, Singh had attended a meeting with top Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul and Priyanka, to review the COVID-19 situation in the country.
