The Delhi Police on Tuesday morning announced that Deep Sidhu, who was a key figure in the chaos at the Red Fort during the farmers' tractor rally on Republic Day, has been arrested. Sidhu was an accused in the hoisting of a religious flag at the Red Fort during the tractor rally, which evoked nationwide outrage.

Sidhu had been untraceable after the incidents on Republic Day.

Sidhu is an actor-turned-activist. Sidhu was accused by farmers' groups of seeking to defame their agitation. Sidhu was also linked to the poll campaign of BJP MP Sunny Deol, as he campaigned in the Gurdaspur constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Deol had distanced himself from Sidhu in December last year after he joined the farmers' agitation.

Deep Sidhu rejected the allegations that he was an agent of the BJP and RSS in a number of videos he uploaded on Facebook.

The circumstances relating to the arrest of Deep Sidhu are unclear. Sidhu and his brother had been summoned by the NIA in January in connection with a probe into the Sikhs for Justice group, which has been accused of links to Khalistani elements.
