What’s in a name? Well, everything or nothing.
But, yes in Gujarat, it is a lot when it comes to renaming dragon fruit as Kamalam.
Interestingly, Kamalam is the name of the Gujarat BJP’s headquarters, located in Gandhinagar. In Sanskrit, Kamalam means lotus.
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who on Tuesday announced a mission to promote horticulture and cultivation of medicinal plants, said that a process has been initiated to get patents for the name Kamalam for the dragon fruit.
The fruit is rich in nutritious value and more than 150 farmers of the border district of Kutch have brought over 1,000 hectares of land under dragon fruit cultivation.
