Suvendu asks CBI to probe Saradha boss letter naming him, hints at TMC hand

Sudipta Sen claimed he had given money to Adhikari, Adhir Chowdhury, Biman Bose

In a major turn of events, rebel Trinamool Congress leader Suvendu Adhikari has written to the CBI director asking him to conduct investigations into allegations levelled against him by the prime accused in the Saradha chit fund scam, Sudipta Sen.

In a letter written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Sen, head of the collapsed Saradha group, had alleged that he had given money to Adhikari several times during his company’s prime days.

Sen had also accused leader of the Congress Adhir Chowdhury, CPI(M) top leader Biman Bose and another senior CPI(M) leader, Sujan Chakraborty, of taking money from him.

While Chakraborty had laughed about the allegation, Bose appeared clueless about what he did with that money.

“Did he (Sen) give money? Let’s see where he stops,” said Bose.

A man of impeccable honesty, Bose, the senior-most CPI(M) leader in the country after former Kerala chief minister V.S. Achuthanandan, is homeless and stays at Alimuddin Street, where the CPI(M)’s Bengal headquarters is located.

A leader close to him said, “Come and see what Biman does regularly. Even at this age, he cleans his own clothes.”

While others laughed about the allegations, Adhikari decided to fire back.

He wrote to CBI director Rishi Shukla, “Needless to say that apart from politicians of the opposition parties in West Bengal, I have been also named in the purported letter, which was written at a time when I had just resigned from the cabinet... It is relevant to state that I resigned from the cabinet on 27.11.2020 and the said letter purportedly written on 01.12.2020.”

He found it peculiar that such a letter was leaked and given wide publicity in the media.

Adhikari did not mention any name but said that the letter was written by Sen at the insistence of the jail authority commanded by “very influential persons”.

Adhikari did not mention who those influential persons could be, but hinted at the topmost leaders of the Trinamool Congress in which he still is a member.

Adhikari then asked Shukla to look into every aspect of the letter and investigate thoroughly including whether such a letter was intended to hide anything.

“It is humbly requested that your good office may kindly take into consideration such letter purportedly written by the said Sudipta Sen and immediately look into every aspect of the letter including the backdrop and the prevailing circumstances at the time of writing thereof,” Adhikari wrote.

He also marked the letter to joint director of CBI, East, Pankaj Srivastava.
