Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has spoken to the state's home minister, Anil Deshmukh, and expressed concern about Republic TV editor in-chief Arnab Goswami, who was arrested last week in an abetment of suicide case.

News agency ANI reported, Koshyari conveyed to Deshmukh "his concern over the security and health of Republic TV editor Arnab Goswami. He also asked the home minister to allow Goswami's family to see him and to speak to him."

The news of the governor's action comes hours before a Bombay High Court bench is scheduled to pass orders on a plea for interim bail for Arnab Goswami on Monday.

The High Court had heard arguments over Arnab's petition for three days last week.

On Monday, BJP Maharashtra MLA Ram Kadam announced he was going the Taloja Jail to meet Arnab and dared the state government to stop him. Kadam had last week launched a hunger strike to protest against Arnab Goswami's arrest.

On Sunday, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya met Koshyari to request his assistance in ensuring Arnab Goswami's safety. Somaiya had met Arnab at the Taloja jail in Navi Mumbai earlier on Sunday. "met Jailer Kurlekar at Taloja Jail, insisted proper care and protection of #ArnabGoswami . Jailer assured me, No Harrasment will take place in Jail. Required Medical treatmentĀ  will also be provided," Kirit Somaiya wrote on Twitter.

Arnab had on Sunday alleged that his life was under threat as he was being shifted from Alibaug to the Taloja jail. Arnab was quoted by Republic TV as saying, "My life is under threat. I am not allowed to speak to my lawyers. I was pushed and assaulted this morning. They woke me up at 6 am. They said I will not let you speak to the lawyers. I want to tell the people of the country that my life is under threat."
