A video of Jyotiraditya Scindia’s faux pas, where he asked people to push the button of ‘hath ka panja’ (hand symbol of Congress) during a bypolls campaign meeting in Dabra of Gwalior went viral over the social media on Saturday night. Even as the video got shared multiple times over Twitter with the common Twitterati making funny comments on the obvious faux pas, the Congress took a dig at Scindia.

Though in the lengthier clip, Scindia is heard correcting himself by asking people to push the button of lotus flower (BJP election symbol) and pack off the hand symbol, the Congress shared a clipped version to take a jibe at the former party leader.

Interestingly, the Scindia faux pas came at the public meeting in Dabra of Gwalior, from where state minister Imarti Devi is the candidate. The minister, who has been the eye of the storm following a controversial statement of ex-chief minister Kamal Nath and her own offensive responses to it, was seen laughing along with others present on the dais, when Scindia had the slip of the tongue.

The video shows Scindia raising both his hands in his typical style and urging people to assure him that they will ‘push the symbol of hand on November 3’. Scindia goes on to utter ‘to ensure victory of Cong…’ when he apparently realizes his slip of tongue and corrects himself to say that people should push the button of ‘lotus flower’ and pack off ‘hand symbol’. Earlier, Imarti Devi herself and ex-MLA Narayan Patel who is contesting from Mandhata in Khandwa have also committed the same faux pas during their campaign speeches and asked people to vote for ‘hath ka panja’ (hand symbol of Congress).

On its official Twitter handle, the MP Congress shared the video, saying “Scindia ji. The people of Madhya Pradesh assure you that on November 3 indeed the symbol of hand will be pushed.”

Narendra Saluja, media coordinator of MP Congress Committee chief Kamal Nath, shared the video to tweet “Scindia has also understood the atmosphere. People will select the hand symbol. This has been decided.” Another Congress spokesman K.K. Mishra tweeted “What is in heart comes to the tongue. In Dabra, Shriant (as Congress has labeled Scindia) said that people should push the hand symbol button. He too knows that the hand symbol and Kamal Nath are staging a return."
