“The Ram Mandir in Ayodhya had been a dream of the Indian people for centuries. Today, the time has come to realise it. It is both a happy and emotional moment,” said former Karnataka chief minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, on Wednesday, expressing happiness over laying the foundation stone for the Ram temple at Ayodhya.

Taking a dig at the Rath Yatra and the meteoric rise of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) post the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, Kumaraswamy said, “The people of this country had to wage a long legal battle to build a temple for Lord Rama in Ayodhya. And a few people used it as a political bait to ascend to power. But this was at best a dark moment in the history. But I wish the temple evolves into a symbol of harmony and uphold the deity’s ideals. It should also end the individual greed of people.”

The Janata Dal Secular leader, who wished to see the temple define the “Indian identity”, said, “The temple should become a symbol of all the virtues and values that signify Lord Ram, who resides in our hearts. The temple should define Indian identity, and I hope our elected representatives draw inspiration from Lord Rama’s ideals and  concern towards the people,” said Kumaraswamy.

“I wish the Ram Mandir reflects the unique blend of the cultural heritage and national unity. Jai Sri Rama!” added Kumaraswamy.
