J&K records fifth death due to COVID-19

Jammu and Kashmir reported its fifth death due to coronavirus after a man who was being treated for COVID-19 infection died at Jhelum Valley Medical Sciences (JVMC) on Friday at Bemina in Srinagar.

The deceased, 70, was a resident of Arampura village of the apple-rich town of Sopore in Baramulla.He was admitted to the hospital ten days ago. 

A local new agency in Srinagar said medical superintendent of JVMC Dr Shafia Deva confirmed the man was undergoing treatment for COVID-19.

So far, four people have died in Kashmir. Jammu’s toll is at one with a woman, from Udhampure in Jammu, succumbing to COVID-19 since the outbreak of the pandemic.The woman from Udhampure died on April 8 soon after she was referred to Jammu Medical College where her family had taken her after she had complained of chest pain.

A day before, a 54-year-old man from Bandipora died at SMHS, Srinagar, due to COVID-19.

The first COVID-19 related death in Jammu and Kashmir was reported on March 29 after a 65-year-old man from Hyderpora died at Srinagar Chest Disease Hospital. He had attended the Tablighi Jamaat conference at Nizamuddin in Delhi.

After him, a man from Tangmarg also died at CDH hospital on March 29.
There are total of 314 COVID-19 positive patients in Jammu and Kashmir—54 in Jammu and 260 in Kashmir.  

The union territory has identified six districts as infection hotspots that include Jammu and Udhampur districts in Jammu and Srinagar, Bandipora, Baramulla and Kupwara in Kashmir.

The government has mobilised all its resources to check the spread of the disease and also ensured effective implementation of the lockdown.
