Panic and tension gripped Dhankot village in Gurugram where an unidentified group of men fired at the main gate of a local mosque and fled. According to district authorities,  a group of Tablighi Jamaat members had been staying at the mosque four days ago.

The neighbours informed the Imam who then reported the incident to the police today evening and registered an FIR. Scared, a group of Muslims gathered outside the mosque but were dispersed by the police. Security has been increased in the village to ensure that the lockdown is strictly followed and that no untoward incident takes place. According to a police team that reached the spot, they have recovered bullet shells and have seized CCTV footage from nearby shops.

"I was not in the mosque at that time and the caretaker living there is safe and except for gate no property has been damaged. The incident has left us scared and we have sought security. I have moved to police," the Imam told THE WEEK. Though the accused have not been identified so far, a preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused came in a white Gypsy.

"We have already registered an FIR. We have some leads but owing to the sensitivity of the matter, we can't share much. There is calm and peace in the area and we will ensure it continues. The accused shall be nabbed soon. People have been warned against rumour-mongering" said Rajendra Park SHO Pankaj Kumar.

On April 1, police traced down 33 people in Gurugram on suspicion that they had attended the Tablighi Jamaat event in Delhi's Nizamuddin area. 27 were taken away from Pataudi while six were taken from Dhankot.

Haryana had registered 76 positive cases of COVID-19 so far and one death.
