The Delhi polls appear to be going in the direction predicted by the exit polls: A decisive win for the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party. Some critics of the BJP even claimed the saffron party knew the elections were a lost cause, which is why Home Minister Amit Shah, and not Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was the 'most visible' face of the poll campaign.
But the trends of the polls show that the BJP will, at least, put up a more creditable performance than the 2015 polls, when it got a mere three seats in the 70-member Assembly—Vishwas Nagar, Rohini and Mustafabad—as an AAP tsunami claimed the remaining 70 seats.
As 10am on Tuesday, AAP was leading in 50 of the 70 Assembly seats, while BJP was ahead in 20 seats.
Shah participated in a mind-boggling 35 rallies and nine roadshows in the whirlwind two-week campaign for the Delhi polls, between January 23 and February 6. And the results of his effort are showing.
At 10am on Tuesday, here are the trends in constituencies Shah campaigned in:
In the Outer Delhi region, in the constituencies where Shah held rallies, the BJP was leading in Bawana, Chhatarpur and Mundka.
In Central Delhi, the BJP is leading in the following constituencies where Shah held rallies: Delhi Cantonment, Hari Nagar (where he led a roadshow), Tri Nagar and Janakpuri.
In East Delhi, the BJP is leading in the following constituencies where Shah held rallies: Ghonda, Karawal Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Timarpur, Rohtas Nagar and Moti Nagar (where he led a roadshow).
The BJP is also leading in Dwarka and Vishwas Nagar, where Modi held rallies. However, Vishwas Nagar was won by the BJP in the 2015 election.
