In a show of support to P. Chidambaram, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and former prime minister Manmohan Singh visited the beleaguered former Union minister at Tihar jail on Monday morning.
Chidambaram had been arrested by the CBI on August 21 for his alleged involvement in corruption in the INX Media case. Chidambaram tweeted a response after the visit: "I am happy that Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi came to visit me. As long as the Congress party remains strong, I will also remain strong."

The Delhi High Court is scheduled to take up on Monday the response of the CBI to a bail plea filed by Chidambaram. Justice Suresh Kumar Kait will be hearing the plea.

The Congress has continued to vouch for Chidambaram, alleging he has been targeted in a witch-hunt b y the BJP-led Central government. Chidambaram's son, Karti P. Chidambaram, accompanied Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh to Tihar jail to visit his father.
Chidambaram is also being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate in a money-laundering case in the INX Media matter.
